Locum Band 5 Registered General Nurses – Hospice Care

£23-£27 per hour

2-3+ shifts per week, including nights and weekends

• Earlies: 07:30-15:00

• Lates: 12:30-20:00

• Long Days: 07:30-20:00

• Nights: 19:30-08:00

We are looking for skilled and compassionate Locum Band 5 Registered General Nurses to join a dedicated hospice care team based in Colchester, Essex on a locum basis. You will be responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to patients with life-limiting illnesses, ensuring comfort, dignity, and support at every stage of their care journey. In this rewarding role, you will work alongside a multidisciplinary team to deliver compassionate, person-centered care, supporting both patients and their families in a hospice environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to patients in accordance with individualized care plans.

• Administer medications, treatments, and therapies as prescribed, ensuring compliance with safe and effective practices.

• Assess and monitor patient conditions, including vital signs, symptoms, and any changes in health status.

• Deliver end-of-life care with sensitivity and respect, ensuring that patients experience dignity and comfort.

• Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to develop and update care plans, communicating with families and other healthcare professionals as needed.

• Provide support and guidance to healthcare assistants and other team members, ensuring the highest standards of care.

• Assist in maintaining accurate patient records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

• Provide emotional and psychological support to patients and their families, helping them navigate complex decisions and challenging moments.

• Support infection control protocols, health and safety practices, and maintain a safe environment for both patients and staff.

Skills and Qualifications

• Registered General Nurse (RGN) with a valid NMC registration.

• Minimum of 1 year of post-registration nursing experience, ideally in palliative or hospice care.

• Experience in administering medications, monitoring patient conditions, and working with complex care needs.

• Knowledge of end-of-life care principles and a compassionate approach to patient care.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to support patients and their families during emotionally challenging times.

• Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, demonstrating a flexible and proactive approach to patient care.

• A commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to ethical guidelines.

• Ability to manage workloads effectively, working in a fast-paced and emotionally demanding environment.
